KACST (King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology) launches WaferCatalyst Silicon prototyping services

Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, May 18th, 2013

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s National Science Agency & National Laboratories announced the launching of WaferCatalyst prototyping and small volume production services.

WaferCatalyst is partnering with leading wafer manufacturing facilities around the world to offer various advanced technologies to end users globally. The technologies available from WaferCatalyst services through its partners are for digital/logic design, analog/mixed-signal/RF design, high speed design, Image sensing and various other specialty designs. KACST plans to offer its WaferCatalyst services to academic, research and commercial organizations in Saudi Arabia and globally.

H.H. Prince Dr. Turki bin Saud bin Mohammad Al Saud, Vice President for Research Institutes of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, emphasized “Offering of WaferCatalyst service is the culmination of KACST’s capacity building in semiconductor technologies and we hope that it will mark the start of a period of innovation in the field of semiconductor design in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region. We believe that with our strong ecosystem, growing pool of expertise as well as our strong network of partnerships in wafer fabrication, design software and support services, WaferCatalyst can provide differentiated services to the national and global semiconductor industry.”

Landshut and Riyadh

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), the National Science Agency & National Laboratories of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) announced together with LFoundry, European-based specialized silicon foundry, that they have signed a foundry agreement where KACST intends to provide prototyping and production services.

Moreover, KACST will be entitled to offer through LFoundry fabrication services to Saudi Arabia market and globally.

H.H. Prince Dr. Turki bin Saud bin Mohammad Al Saud, Vice President for Research Institutes of KACST emphasized that “research, development and investment in semiconductor technologies are considered a strategic choice for KSA for further diversification of its economy through technology leadership within its National Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (NSTIP). In this sense, the agreement with LFoundry gives an excellent basis to enter this industry through the link to LFoundry’s wafer fabrication services”.

Gerhard Spitzlsperger, Chief Technology Officer of LFoundry, stated that, We are delighted that LFoundry’s leading Analog-mixed-signal and MEMS technologies as well as its specialized foundry services, and its strength in technology customization has convinced KACST to choose LFoundry as a partner for semiconductor manufacturing and development.”
